At 2 am I woke up with a strong cough. I sat down on the bed, cleared my throat with difficulty, but realized that I was suffocating. I tried to catch my breath, but it didn’t work. I took a dose of Combivent, it didn’t help, I took another, again to no avail. I tried to breathe deeply, but I couldn’t, I was coughing and choking, not a minute passed without me starting to choke again. My heart was pounding wildly, I was sweating from head to toe, I felt wildly weak from the lack of oxygen, my hands began to tremble… Now I understand that it was a panic attack, but then I was very scared because I had never been in such a state . It felt like strong hands were squeezing my throat and I couldn’t breathe in air properly. I opened the window, but it was very cold outside (-15C) and I was sweating, so I had to close it. My attempts to bring my breathing back to normal yielded nothing, the panic attack did not go away, my body was shaken by large tremors, and tears flowed from my eyes. With trembling hands, I dialed the emergency number for the ambulance; I had to pause to say a new phrase, but I still gave the symptoms and address. Hearing on the phone “the ambulance is coming, wait,” I woke up my wife, somehow told her everything and asked her to pack her my things for the hospital. I was simply afraid to stay at home. I was afraid of dying from suffocation.
You may find it strange that my wife did not wake up from my cough. But the thing is that my wife could not sleep normally for more than a month because of my night cough, so she slept in our daughter’s room. That night our daughter was visiting her grandmother, and my wife was enjoying sleep alone in our daughter’s bedroom, but I disturbed her))
The nurses who came to the call listened to me and gave me an injection. Unfortunately, I don’t know what medicine it was, but while they were calling the inpatient hospital, arranging for my hospitalization, and filling out the paperwork, my breathing returned to normal. They injected me with something very strong! And here I am in an ambulance going to a hospital specializing in lung diseases. 5 a.m. April 13, 2024. I get to the emergency room, sign documents, hand over my outerwear and they take me to the ward…
